| Home | People that have been at the
"Austin Art Farm" and have seen the products coming out of the glass
blowing studio have one question for Adam Yoo..... Where did all that
money go ?? I had an inside look at some of the money that Adam makes in this "business" and his "apprentices" would be amazed at just how much he makes (so would the US Government since he does not pay taxes on the money he makes). On just one trip out to local head shops I watched him pick up one check for $587 and another for $390, and another shop bought $160 in product from him. And, on that same day one of his new "apprentices" gave him $800 to join the program and so his total take in for that one day was $1,937.00, but the funny thing was that 2 days later he was saying that he was broke and needed to come up with $350 for the electric bill. Where did all that money go ?? Now realized that Adam makes sales runs weekly to different shops within the Austin area, and on a regular basis these shops buy his product, and it would be safe to say that he makes about $2,500-3,000 a month, yet his "apprentices never seem to get paid. Remember the Marley Fest story ?? 3 people made over $3,000 in product and only got paid $30.00 and this is typical of what happens and why people leave his business. For those that have wondered what his method was for figuring out the numbers in his business here is the scoop, and if reading these numbers gives you a head ache think about what it did to the "apprentices". Lets say Joe is a "Student" in the glass blowing shop and has chosen to work off his "apprenticeship" cost by paying weekly instead of paying it all up front this is how it would work. Joe would be required to work 25 hours a week and within that 25 hours he would be required to produce so much product to determine his production rate. If Joe worked 25 hours and produced $500 in product his production rate would be $20.00 and hour. Now, assuming that Joe did this the way the program worked was that 50% went to the "Student" and 50% went back to the shop, so Joe would get $250 for that week, but then there was the cost of his "apprenticeship" program fee which was $77 a week that had to be deducted, and so now Joe is only making $173 a week. And here in Austin a person making $173 a week is HOMELESS.... no joke. Now, lets say that Joe only worked 19 hours one week, well that is where Joe starts to feel the cold fist of Adam Yoo sliding up his ass. In that 19 hours Joe made $450 in product which meant that he production rate for that time was $23.70 an hour, but here is the kicker.... and where many "Students" get fucked. Adam then takes that number and says "what would their production rate be if Joe had actually worked his 25 hours at that production rate" ?? well, that would mean that Joe would have made $592.50 in product that week. Now grab that bottle of aspirin because here is where it gets nerve racking. This is the formula for figuring out how to fuck Joe over:
Yup, you read that correctly Joe only made $76.75 that week. There was one "Student" that was living at the "Austin Art Farm" and was being charged $300 a month for rent to live in a bedroom that was no bigger than a jail cell, and after injuring himself while lighting the pilot light on the water heater in the house was unable to work. This "Student" burned his hand to the extent that he could not work for about 3 weeks (blowing glass requires the worker to be in contact with an extremely hot flame that aggravated his wound). Adam Yoo was nice enough not to dock him for the first week, but then the debt started adding up. The second week this is how Adam screwed him: The week before getting injured the "Student" had a production rate of $25 an hour at his program required 25 hours for that week, which meant that he produced $625 in product. Here was the formula that screwed him (and many others):
Then add another week to that and this "Student" was soon at (NEGATIVE) -$779.00 in just 2 weeks, and then add the fact that Adam then wanted $300 for the rent, and remember that this "Student" injured himself doing something good for the house and Adam. Within 3 weeks time this "Student" was over $1,000 in debt to the shop (Adam) and the "Austin Art Farm" (also Adam), and tried to make up for that debt through working to produce for the Marley Fest, and then working the make shift torch at the fest, but in the end his efforts were no good. That "Student" ended up leaving both the shop and the "Austin Art Farm" (Brad, this should serve as a warning to you.... this is not the only case like this). But, the question still begs "Where did ALL that money go" ?? After telling a former resident of the "Austin Art Farm" about this site they had something interesting to tell me about Adam and his bank account. It seems that at one time in this persons residing there Adam wanted to brag about how he was doing and showed them his bank statement, and this was just after the windfall at Marley Fest. From this persons account Adam had over $12,000 in his bank account and that was before he deposited the $3,500 from Marley Fest. Now, this is all INCOME that Adam Yoo makes yet has NEVER, REPEAT NEVER paid income taxes on. Not to mention that his glass blowing shop is not a LEGAL business in the state of Texas (he does not even have a business license). |
