THE PAST MEETS THE PRESENT

Back in 1995 I moved to Fayetteville Arkansas from Boulder Colorado with 3 friends because we were sick and tired of the way life was going there, and I had been to Fayetteville the year before and really like what I saw going on there.

About a year after living there one of the guys in the house, Mike, met a guy from a local body piercing and tattoo shop named Adam Yoo, and we all became instant friends.

It was in the spring of 1997 that we all decided to look into getting a house in Fayetteville, and so it was Mike, Adam and his then wife Sarai, this kid Jeremy, and myself.

We got this really HUGE house just 2 blocks from downtown with a shop on the front of it, and the idea was to move the tattoo and body piecing over to the house, and set up a full time glass blowing studio as well since Mike was an accomplished glass blower.

But, plans that were made never came to be and things slowly but surely started to fall apart and break down, and before long people in the house started to see the controlling and manipulative ways of Adam Yoo.

If things in the house were not done to his liking there was an argument, if people did not respect his assumed authority in the house there was an argument, but all the while Adam was allowed to do whatever he wanted without ever any consequences or responsibility.

And so, after a year of putting up with his bullshit and several near fights people decided that they had enough and planned a mass move out leaving Adam with finding new people to move in to help pay the rent and utilities, but all he could manage to find was a heroine junky who stole cars, a local prostitute and her pothead boyfriend.

To say the least the house did not last much longer.

I moved to San Antonio with my friend Vince where I had lived years before, Jeremy went back home to Missouri, and Mike moved out to Santa Fe NM with his girlfriend.

From what I had heard about Adam is that he and his wife along with their new born son had moved to Blanco Texas to live on her mothers land, and so the last time I saw Adam was at Thanxgiving dinner 1998 at the land in Blanco.

From what I heard Adam had moved some time after that to Santa Fe NM to reconnect with his family that lived there, and while there he learned how to blow glass from Mike.

In June of 2006 I moved to Austin Texas to hang out with my friends Jennifer and Pod.

I had heard through the grapevine that Adam was back in the Austin area so I asked my friends if they knew who he was and everyone kept referring to him as "Art Farm Adam", and so I asked what this "Austin Art Farm" was.

They told me that supposedly it was some sort of self sustaining intentional community with a garden and a glass blowing studio, and it was then that I knew that it must be the same Adam.

I took the bus down to the "Austin Art Farm" to check the scene out and to see if it was in fact the same Adam that I had known in Fayetteville.

NOTE: Just as a note I will say that I am of the belief that as long as a person is drawing breathe that they have the ability to change.... and I wanted to see if Adam had changed in the 9 years since I last saw him.

When I got to the "Austin Art Farm" the place was WIDE OPEN.... the doors to the house were WIDE OPEN.... the doors to the glass blowing studio were WIDE OPEN.

THERE WAS NOBODY THERE. (this was normal there.... and still is to this day)

I left a note in the shop area with my contact information in case it was the same Adam Yoo, and later that day I got a call from Adam and we set up a time for me to come down and meet.

Yes, it was the same Adam Yoo that I met in Fayetteville only it had seemed that he had made some changes in his life and was on track to something that was good, and so Adam asked me if I would like to come join him at the "Austin Art Farm".

I moved down there about a week later and was mainly staying on the sofa in the living room since there was not much more room anywhere else for me to stay.

Over the next 3-4 months I converted the work shed in the yard to my living space, also I lived in the back bedroom in the house, helped rebuild a wall in the house that had major termite damage, fixed several computers, maintained and set up a WiFi system for the multiple computers on the property, tended to the garden, pretty much took over the care and feeding of Onyxza the farm dog, and helped raise over 60 chickens.

I also did more yard cleaning in my time there than anyone before or after my coming and going, I also helped build and maintain several websites (including the one that used to be at this URL), registered multiple domains using my own funds and server account.

BUT, what was my payment for everything I did ??

I was ripped off, I was lied to, lied about, was assaulted, and in the end I walked away determined to help others to avoid what I and many other have gone through at the "Austin Art Farm" and with Adam Yoo.
